The world's first alphabet was discovered in Syria, where one of the oldest civilizations was born.
There is no doubt that Syria is a country that must be visited due to its diversity and natural landscapes that invite one to explore mountain ranges, steppes, valleys, beaches, deserts and oases, in addition to traditional baths, inns and markets.
Syria spreads over an area of 185,180 square kilometers and can be divided into five distinctive tourist regions with different characteristics and terrain:
- To the west there is a coastline of 180 km. and mountains divided into two chains standing facing each other:
- The eastern mountain range, which extends along the border between Syria and Lebanon and called Eastern Mount Lebanon, where Mount Hermon constitutes the highest peak and is covered in snow throughout the year.
- The Western Mountain Range, called Western Mount Lebanon, extends to the north part of the Syrian coast where it is known as the Latakia Mountain, and is covered with bushes and forests.
Between these runs the Orontes River. two rangers and creates a fertile valley extending north to Homs, Hama and the Aleppo Plains.
- The central part of Syria is covered by what is known as the al Cham Desert (al-Badia) where plains and grasslands give an unusual charm to a vast terrain of sand and rock.
- To the north of the desert there is a huge fertile basin area formed by the Euphrates River.

Syria is connected to Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey via international highways and by sea through the ports of Latakia and Tartous on the Mediterranean Sea.
Accommodation: There are hotels of different levels. Several youth hotels and student residences are available during the summer in Damascus, Aleppo and Latakia. Camping sites are also available on the outskirts of some towns and at summer resorts.
Transportation: Buses, taxis and trains provide transportation between major cities.
