Jabal al-Arab forms the majority of the region with its hills, volcanic rocks, historic cities and rich vineyards. That vast plain of Houran and the Golden Peaks of the rest of this region, and they have long been the most fertile part of it along the borders with Lebanon and Palestine.
Bosra
It is an extremely ancient city mentioned in the lists of Thutmose III and Akhenaten in the 14th century BC. The Romans were actively interested in the city, and in the time of Emperor Trajan it became the capital of the province of Arabia (in the year 106 BC) and was called Neatrajana Bustra. The city experienced its greatest period of prosperity and expansion, then became a crossroads on caravan routes. The most interesting part of the city today is the famous Roman theater built in the 2nd century AD, which can seat 15,000 spectators and is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world.
Shahba
It is the birthplace of the Syrian Emperor Philip, who ruled the Roman Empire from 224 to 249 AD. The city bore the name Phillipopolis during the Roman period and the emperor took a personal interest in planning the city to the standards of the Roman Empire. So. Numerous palaces, temples, public baths, a theater and a great wall were built and triumphal arches were erected.
